Wendela Elsen – Director of Diversity and Inclusion Consulting
Born and raised in the Netherlands, Wendela spent 15 years (between 1997 and 2012) in Asia. She lived and worked in Tokyo from 2003 until 2012, and is now based in the UK. Wendela has more than 20 years of corporate experience in the financial and professional services sectors where she gained experience on a wide spectrum of human resources management. She served as the HR Director for a global professional services firm in Tokyo.
Wendela first became involved in gender diversity when she was part of a team that ran the newly established women’s network at a large Dutch bank in the Netherlands in the mid-1990’s. She continued studying the impact of gender in the workforce in different countries and in Tokyo was an active member of the Association of Women in Finance, Foreign Executive Women and the American Chamber of Commerce committees Women in Business and Women in Leadership.
During her last several years in Tokyo she worked as an HR consultant and in that capacity led the D&I initiative for the Japan office of a large global professional services firm.
Since moving to the UK, Wendela has continued working as an D&I consultant and has been involved in a number of D&I projects with multinational clients, mainly in the high-tech sector (petro-chemical and engineering industries).
With her extensive experience of working abroad for different companies in different countries, Wendela is very sensitive to differences in national and organisational cultures. She strives to achieve necessary change for optimal performance by adjusting global D&I theories and concepts to suit the local business environment.
